We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer to join Viking's Customer Service and Product Support (CSPS) Division in Calgary, Alberta.

Viking Air Limited is the global leader providing support and services, and manufacturing of utility, specialty, and fire-fighting aircraft.  Viking provides OEM support for the Canadair CL-215, 215T and 415 aircraft.


  • Reporting to the Customer Service & Product Support (CSPS) Technical Publications Coordinator, the successful candidate will prepare and validate aircraft technical documentation using various software applications.
  • The technical writer will analyze and answer internal and external customer requests related to the technical documentation and will also work closely with Viking's Engineering and Technical Service groups.
  • Apply standard technical writing methods to support Continuing Airworthiness (CAW), Customer Support and Engineering Configuration Control with the incorporation of change requests for flight safety, technical discrepancies and modifications to the full complement of support manuals for the fleet.
  • Process Manual Change Requests (MCRs) as per work instructions.
  • Assist with the maintenance and troubleshooting of the publishing software in production, distribution and archiving of all revisions and temporary revisions to Product Service Manual (PSM's) and Product Support Publication's (PSP's).



Incorporation of technical data into Product Support Manuals (PSM's) and Product Support Publications (PSP's)


  • Research, plan, write and revise technical maintenance data using engineering and approved data from multiple sources, while ensuring adherence to schedule.
  • Liaise with Engineering to define technical data brought about by design change to A/C basic configuration drawings.
  • Liaise with Product Support & Continuing Airworthiness to verify change requests brought about to clarify technical data or enhance flight safety.
  • Compile and/or draft Illustration detail for technical manuals resulting from technical changes to A/C design.
  • Execute technical writing, editing and publishing of technical content.
  • Ensure all appropriate documents are approved prior to archiving and publishing material.

Manual Change Request (MCR) Processing

  • Ensure request information is correct, clear and concise.
  • Research & evaluate resource material for context and formatting.
  • Ensure appropriate references and redlines are scanned and filed.
  • Initiate report and create folder to contain all reference data.
  • Confirm manual impact is identified and corresponding MCRs are raised.


  • College diploma in aerospace or equivalent field or a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in Aircraft Technical Publications.
  • Proficiency in the English language with good knowledge of Simplified Technical English (STE).
  • Experience with industry-standard desktop publishing software such as Arbortext, Framemaker, MS Word.
  • Basic understanding of ATA specifications.
  • Good knowledge of SGML and XML authoring languages (an asset)
  • Experience with image/illustration editing software.
  • Experience in the aviation industry and in-service aircraft.
  • Good knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (including CARs 521, 561, 571, & 573).
  • Experience with aviation Quality Assurance (an asset)
  • Experience with Customer Service and Support (an asset)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong willingness to learn.
  • Good understanding of aircraft production processes.
