We are seeking an experienced Methods Engineering Technologist to join Viking's Engineering Department in Calgary, AB.

Viking Air Limited is the global leader providing support and services, and manufacturing of utility, specialty, and fire-fighting aircraft.  Viking provides OEM support for the global fleet of de Havilland DHC-1 through DHC-7 and the Bombardier CL-215, 215T and 415 aircraft.


The primary purpose of the Methods Engineering Technologist is:

  • Accountable for developing and revising Engineering Masters (EM's), planning documents and workbooks to ensure that they properly define HOW the aircraft assembly, sub-assemblies and parts are manufactured in accordance with the type design
  • Defining standard work
  • Supporting Production in solving simple tactical problems.
  • Defining parts manufacturing process


  • Engineering Master (EM)
    • Create EM's to define parts, tools, processes, sequence and special instruction required to purchase or build a part/assembly
    • Ensure EM's result in an aircraft that meets the approved Type Design
    • Perform changes to the EMs IAW the ECN process
  • Build Instructions
    • Create detail instruction, illustrated workbooks and planning sketches to fully define the agreed build sequence of the aircraft assembly and sub-assemblies.
    • Ensure build instructions are sequenced in correlation with the Engineering Masters
  • Engineering Change Notice (ECN) Process
    • Record and submit Engineering change requests for changes to design and tools producing non-conforming product
    • Record and submit Engineering change requests for changes to design and tools required to improve efficiency and quality of builds
    • Participate in Integrated Product Development Teams (IPDT) to resolve ECN issues
    • Execute ECN related tasks
  • First line of Technical Support For Cells
    • Trouble shooting technical manufacturing issues
    • Participate in investigations into technical Issues
    • Liaise with Engineering in technical Issues through the NCM (Non-Conforming Material) Process
    • Liaise with Quality Engineering, and Supply Chain to develop resolutions and implement changes to technical or quality problems
    • Participate in continual improvement initiatives
    • Liaise with QC Group to determine problem resolution
    • Assist in execution of NCM Tasks
  • Hand Tools
    • Tool Control Process
    • Participate in TPM (Total Production Maintenance) process
  • Build Cost Reductions
    • Assist Cell Managers in developing plans to increase cell efficiency
    • Manage Cell major projects to assist in increasing production rate and reducing costs
  • Training
    • Assist in developing and rolling out technical skills training for manufacturing and assembly personnel to support the Quality Management System (QMS)
    • Assist with training of Production personnel


  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Technical Diploma preferred, related work experience considered.
  • Knowledge of Aerospace engineering and manufacturing principles and techniques.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and process design issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret aircraft engineering drawings.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate and document information using a computer and required software (MS Office programs, AutoCAD)
  • Ability to manage and act on multiple projects and priorities at one time.
  • Ability to work effectively either independently or with others on flexible work assignments.
