Viking is seeking two experienced Project Engineers to join the Customer Service and Product Support (CSPS) division in Calgary.

Viking Air Limited is the global leader providing support and services, and manufacturing of utility, specialty, and fire-fighting aircraft.  Viking provides OEM support for the global fleet of de Havilland DHC-1 through DHC-7 and the Bombardier CL-215, 215T and 415 aircraft.

The Project Engineer provides world class service supporting the design of aeronautical products and design changes for customers, operators and maintainers of the Viking fleet. The role also requires the development of analysis, participation in the project management, certification activities, and support of technical and continuing airworthiness matters.  Participate in direct interaction with the customers and assist the Technical Support Representatives in responding to customer requests.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engineering Support & Design Change Development: Provide world class service and act as the primary point of contact for customers, operators, maintainers, and Viking staff requests for engineering support services.  Develop design data and associated analysis demonstrating compliance with airworthiness requirements.  Support the development of ICAs.  Coordinate the approval of engineering data by internal Viking authorities and support of the airworthiness approval as needed.  Support the execution of engineering work by others within Viking and external contractors.
  • Modifications & Design Change Projects: Provide engineering services and document development in support of the development and certification of design change projects in accordance with Viking's Engineering and CSPS standards.  Support investigations, technical assessments, design concept, estimates, and proposal development.  Perform project planning and performance tracking tasks.
  • Customer Communication:  Act as a point of contact at Viking to operator's and maintainer's requests for technical support requiring engineering action.  Respond promptly to customer questions and requests.  Coordinate the provision of technical support and information with technical support team.  Always represent Viking in a professional and courteous manner in every communication with customers or prospective customers.
  • DAO Participation: Support the processes of the DAO as required.
  • Product Development:  Work with Technical Support Manager and other Engineers on establishing regular communications with all customers, solicit aircraft operational feedback and capture the needs of the customer.  Participate as a member of the Product Development team in vetting customer requests for validity and feasibility, and establishing the means of executing projects.
  • Project Management Activities:  Manage new and ongoing engineering projects, both in-house and using our-sourced engineering services, in accordance with company processes and recognized industry practices.
  • CAW Support:  Where required, support the continuing airworthiness of the Viking fleet by participating in CAW projects and in representing the voice of the customer.
  • R2E / Continual Improvement:  Actively participate in the Viking R2E program.  Assist in the development of standard work for all CSPS activities.  Understand metrics that measure key performance parameters.  Strive to achieve world class levels of customer service in every interaction our clients have with Viking. 

EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering.
  • 10 years of experience in various disciplines of aeronautical engineering including participation in design changes, preparation of analysis/testing data, creation of ICAs.
  •  5 years' experience supporting airworthiness certification under a TCCA framework
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to solve technical problems and participate in process development.
  • Experience with engineering design data development and document revision
  • Experience with engineering change management
  • Experience with engineering project management
  • Ability to read and interpret aircraft engineering drawings and aircraft service manuals and service documents.
  • Experience supporting aircraft in operations and maintenance environments
  • Experience in a customer support environment
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in teams.
  • Ability to estimate, manage work, adjust priorities to suit demands, track project performance, and report progress and issues.
  • Ability to mentor more junior team members and to support the participation of others supporting Viking's work.
  • Ability to create documents/data using MS Office programs and AutoCAD are required.  CATIA and SOLIDWORKS are assets.
