Viking is seeking an experienced Avionics and Electrical Systems Engineer to join the Customer Service and Product Support (CSPS) division in Calgary.

Viking Air Limited is the global leader providing support and services, and manufacturing of utility, specialty, and fire-fighting aircraft.  Viking provides OEM support for the global fleet of de Havilland DHC-1 through DHC-7 and the Bombardier CL-215, 215T and 415 aircraft.

The Avionics and Electrical Systems Engineer provides world class service supporting the design of aeronautical products and design changes for customers, operators and maintainers of the Viking fleet.  The role also requires the development of analysis, participation in the project management, certification activities, and support of technical and continuing airworthiness matters.  Participate in direct interaction with the customers and assist the Technical Support Representatives in responding to customer requests.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Modifications & Design Change Projects: Provide engineering support for the development and certification of modifications and other design change projects in accordance with the requirements of Viking CSPS. Develop design data and associated analysis demonstrating compliance with airworthiness requirements.  Support the development of ICAs.  Coordinate the approval of engineering data by internal Viking authorities and support of the airworthiness approval as needed.  Support the execution of engineering work by others within Viking and external contractors.  Support project evaluations, effort estimating, and proposal preparation for projects.
  • Engineering Support Activities: Provide world class service and act as a support for customer, operator, maintainer, and Viking staff requests for support engineering services.
  • Modifications & Design Change Projects: Provide engineering services and document development in support of the development and certification of design change projects in accordance with Viking's Engineering and CSPS standards. Support investigations, technical assessments, design concept, estimates, and proposal development.  Perform project planning and performance tracking tasks.
  • Customer Communication: Act as a point of contact at Viking to operator's and maintainer's requests for technical support requiring engineering action.  Respond promptly to customer questions and requests.  Coordinate the provision of technical support and information with technical support team.  Always represent Viking in a professional and courteous manner in every communication with customers or prospective customers.
  • Product Development: Work with Technical Support Manager and other Engineers on establishing regular communications with all customers, solicit aircraft operational feedback and capture the needs of the customer.  Participate as a member of the Product Development team in vetting customer requests for validity and feasibility, and establishing the means of executing projects.
  • R2E / Continual Improvement: Actively participate in the Viking R2E program.  Assist in the development of standard work for all CSPS activities.  Understand metrics that measure key performance parameters.  Strive to achieve world class levels of customer service in every interaction our clients have with Viking.
  • Project Management Activities: Manage new and ongoing engineering projects, both in-house and using our-sourced engineering services, in accordance with company processes and recognized industry practices.
  • Design Approval Organization (DAO) Participation: Participate in supporting the functions associated to the certification of aeronautical products and continuing airworthiness support aspects of the DAO.

EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 10 years of aeronautical engineering in the avionics and electrical systems discipline.
  • Thorough knowledge of aerospace engineering, aircraft modification, operational support, and civil aircraft certification principles and processes, specifically related to electrical systems and avionics engineering.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and process design issues.
  • Experience applying project management and systems engineering practices in executing aerospace projects.
  • Ability to interpret and develop aircraft engineering drawings.
  • Ability to develop airworthiness substantiation data in support of civil airworthiness certification processes.
  • Ability to develop source material used to support the development of aircraft manuals and other ICAs (Instructions for Continued Airworthiness).
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate and document information using a computer and required software (MS Office programs, AutoCAD required; CATIA and SOLIDWORKS are assets).
  • Education, knowledge and experience contributing to future TCCA delegation under CAR 505 is an asset.
