We are seeking an experienced Strategic Sourcing Specialist to join Viking's Supply Chain Division in Sidney, BC.


As a key interface between Viking and a group of world-class aerospace supply chain partners, the Strategic Sourcing Specialist will be accountable for managing the ongoing supply of aircraft parts and services in line with Viking's sourcing requirements. This role is part of our Strategic Sourcing team and has high-level responsibility for supply chain strategy at Viking Air.

Key accountabilities will include supplier quality and risk monitoring, on-time delivery management, cost and inventory optimization, and vendor continuous improvement.

The Strategic Sourcing Specialist is also responsible for improving and/or developing the relationship between Viking and its supply chain existing or future partners.


  • Develop and execute supply chain strategies that achieve the cost, quality, and delivery targets of the company.
  • Manage suppliers of mechanical structures, metals, composites, windows, landing gear and other assemblies and structures, electric assemblies, avionics, harnesses, safety and other systems. Specific responsibilities for vendors and commodity areas will be assigned based on the skills and experience of the candidate.
  • Lead supplier productivity projects to improve BOM costs.
  • Monitor and manage On Time Delivery of vendor-supplied aircraft products and services.
  • Ensure that all vendor-supplied products and services meet or exceed all regulatory, customer and company requirements.
  • Manage and mitigate risk related to suppliers and purchased products.
  • Actively participate in Viking's ongoing Continuous Improvement program.
  • Work with Viking Supplier Quality Assurance and ensure that all vendors comply with Viking's Quality Management System.
  • Manage Make versus Buy analysis and process.
  • Review and coordinate vendor-related engineering change.
  • Engage fully with Viking's metric-based performance management processes.
  • Seek to develop skills and experience by proactively participating in professional training and development programs.


The Strategic Sourcing Specialist will work within the Supply Chain function, and liaise with staff in Operations, Engineering, Quality, Program and Finance. The role reports directly to the Supply Chain Manager.


  • Bachelor of Commerce, Engineering or Aerospace related degree, or equivalent experience.
  • An MBA would be an asset.
  • 3+ years experience working in a purchasing role within a manufacturing or operations environment.
  • Excellent negotiation skills are a requirement.
  • Understanding of contemporary lean manufacturing principles and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Being able to present a strategy using Power Point
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively with people at all organizational levels.
  • Intermediate / advanced computer and data analysis skills are desirable.
  • APICS certification, although not required, is a distinct asset.
  • Aerospace experience, although not required, is a distinct asset.
  • Willingness to learn.
